Beanstalk is a multidisciplinary project team created at the Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute, in partnership with the Associação de Promoção da Madeira (AP Madeira). Our goal is to design and deliver a product to the board of the Tourism of Madeira that allows them to analyze trends in tourism and marketing – have a better understanding of what both locals and tourists visit, how and when – and further complement this with a transmedia experience that can potentially stimulate local economy.
This project is divided into two components – the first of which focuses on the creation of a platform where it is possible to keep track of the flow of people in Madeira. The second component consists in the development of a location based storytelling experience, using everyday mobile devices, that capitalizes on the previously collected data.
Beanstalk is a MADEIRA14-20 FEDER funded project, with the collaboration of the Madeira Promotion Bureau (AP Madeira).

|The Madeira-ITI operates in the interdisciplinary domain of human-computer interaction encapsulating contributions from computer science, psychology and design in order to address/engage in important scientific and technological challenges that are both relevant to society and have significant economic impact.
|The Promotion Bureau for the Autonomous Region of Madeira (AP Madeira) is a non profit organization, founded in August 2004 by a public entity and a private one – the Regional Tourist Board and the Funchal Chamber of Commerce and Industry. AP Madeira’s aim is to promote and spread the idea of Madeira as a destination overseas, directly to clients themselves and, in particular, to trade.

ANA Group is the airport authority responsible for the management of airports in Portugal (Lisbon, Porto, Faro and Beja), the Azores (Ponta Delgada, Horta, Flores and Santa Maria) and the Autonomous Region of Madeira (Madeira and Porto Santo).
|The Instituto de Desenvolvimento Regional (IPR) is a supporting body of the Regional Secretary of Planning and Finances. It coordinates the activities of planning and monitoring of the regional development model, as well as the coordination and management of the mediation of the communitary funds of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
|The Associação do Comércio e Indústria Do Funchal (ACIF) is a non-profit legal entity that, as a business association, represents the companies that exert their activities in the Autonomous Region of Madeira in the areas of Retail and Services, Industry, and Tourism. Currently, about 800 companies are associated with ACIF.
